The Clinton High School Baseball team built their lead a few runs at a time in an 11-1 victory over the Senatobia Warriors in the Mid-Mississippi Classic on Saturday at Arrow Baseball Field.
After the Warriors gained a one-run advantage in the top of the first inning, the Arrows grabbed the lead, 2-1, in the bottom half with singles by
David Steelman and
Tyrese Haggard.
A walk by
Ethan Dodson extended the Clinton lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the second.
Chad Bates and
Josef Walker had RBI walks in the third, adding two runs.
During the fourth frame,
Brody Zumbro's sacrifice fly brought in
Stone Crain, who led off the inning with a triple, and
Parker Thames grounded out, scoring a run. In the next inning, the Arrows added two more runs off a Senatobia error and Walker advancing home due to a passed ball.
In the final at bats, Clinton added the final two runs when Bates was hit by a pitch and a throwing error plated the last run of the game.
Parker Burrow earned the win for Clinton. The left-handed freshman gave up four hits and one run over four innings, striking out six and walking none.
Wes Ambrose and Haggard combined for two shutout innings in relief.
The Arrows collected 10 hits in the game. Crain led the team with three hits in four at bats. Zumbro, Walker, Thames, Haggard, Bates, and Steelman each drove in one run for the red and black. Clinton had nine walks paced by Bates' three.Â

Clinton travels for a non-region game against the Pearl Pirates on Tuesday, Feb. 25, at Pearl High School. The JV-Varsity doubleheader starts at 5 p.m.
