The Clinton High School Baseball team slammed the door shut in the seventh inning and defeated the Ridgeland Titans, 4-2, at Arrow Baseball Field on Friday night.
Clinton were first to scratch across a run in the contest.
Ethan Dodson hit a sacrifice fly, scoring
Chad Bates, who led off the bottom of the first inning with a single.
John Hill's double gave Ridgeland the lead, 2-1, in the top of the second.
Arrow five-hole hitter
David Steelman scored on a passed ball in the next frame, tying the game.
A ground out by
Josef Walker gave Clinton the lead, 3-2, in the bottom of the third. Then, in the fifth, Walker provided enough cushion when his speed on the base paths forced the Titan defense into two throwing errors, leading to the second baseman touching all four bases en route to the two-run advantage.
Following Ridgeland's lead-off single in the seventh inning, the Arrows shut down the potential rally with a 5-4-3 double play and
Brody Zumbro fanned the Ridgeland batter to save the game.
Jack Grove earned the win for Clinton. The hurler allowed two hits and two runs over four innings of work, striking out three and walking two. Zumbro earned the one-hit save in three innings, striking out two and walking none.
Bates, who stole two bases, and Steelman each collected two hits for the Arrows. Dodson led the team with one run batted in.
