GLUCKSTADT -- The Clinton High School Women's Soccer team placed its stamp on the team's second Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Region 2-7A match, dominating the Germantown Lady Mavericks, 4-0, on Tuesday night.
Freshman
Ja'Milah Williams scored a goal and provided two assists as the Lady Arrows routed Germantown, bouncing back from a 2-0 defeat to the Oxford Lady Chargers in the opening region match last Tuesday, December 2, at Arrow Field. Clinton's four-goal margin matches the maximum goal differential allowed in region play -- an important factor that could influence postseason seeding.
With the win, Clinton improved its overall record to 5-2-1 and 1-1 in region play.
Joelle Ambrose,
Kayla Jones, and
Macy Kate Schoggen scored goals for the Lady Arrows, while
Elise Thomas and
Cate Thompson each provided an assist. Junior goalkeeper
Ellyn Burchfield earned her fifth clean sheet this season.
Williams put the Lady Arrows ahead in the 12th minute when the forward slipped behind the Lady Maverick defensive line and finished off Thomas' set up. Later in the first half, Ambrose doubled Clinton's advantage when she redirected Williams' cross at the back post.
Twelve minutes into the second half, Williams drew a foul inside the penalty area, allowing Jones to calmly bury the ensuing spot kick and stretch the advantage to 3–0.
Schoggen capped the scoring in the 80th minute, hammering home a corner played in by Thompson.
