The Clinton High School Women's Basketball team did not let a sluggish first half against the Murrah Lady Mustangs get in the way on Thursday night.
Instead, the Lady Arrows turned up their intensity out of the locker room and cruised to their second Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) District 2-7A win.
Jatoi Johnson scored 10 of her team-high 14 points during the third quarter, and Clinton (15-5, 2-2 District 2-7A) defeated the Lady Mustangs, 43-24, at Arrow Gym. The win snapped a two-game skid in District 2-7A action.
Aria Jones scored 10 points, including a four-of-five performances at the charity stripe, had two steals and grabbed three boards.
Eyana McKinley chipped in seven points in the double-digit victory.
Clinton led 8-5 following the game's first eight minutes and outscored Murrah 6-4 in the second, carrying a 14-9 advantage into the break.
Johnson energized the Lady Arrows with a pair of made free-throws and a lay-up off a steal, expanding their lead to nine in the opening minute of the third period. Then, the senior guard scored three consecutive buckets, giving the red and black a 26-13 advantage late in the period. Clinton led Murrah 28-15 at the conclusion of the third.
The Lady Arrows stretched their advantage to as much as 17 points during the last eight minutes and never lost focus in the closing minutes for their second district win.
UP NEXT
Clinton travels to Madison Central for another District 2-7A game at 6 p.m. on Tuesday. It is the first of two meetings between the teams.
