The Clinton High School Men's Basketball team grabbed control of its game against the Murrah Mustangs during the second half and never looked back on Thursday night.

Jakobe Cavett scored 15 points, grabbed two steals, and collected four rebounds, Jamari Young added 10 points and blocked a team-high three shots and the Arrows tamed the Mustangs, 51-41, in a Mississipi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) District 2-7A game at Arrow Gym. The victory improved Clinton's overall record to 11-8 and its District 2-7A mark to 2-2.

With a narrow 21-20 advantage at halftime, Clinton ran away with the contest, outscoring the visitors 18-5 during the third quarter. Cavett scored seven points during the offensive explosion that gave the red and black a 39-25 lead before the fourth.

Off the bench, Javarius Tyler contributed 10 points and snatched two steals. Kameron Boone, Logan Garner, Kaleb Lowe, and Shiloh Freeman rounded out the Arrows that scored against the Mustangs.

Clinton has enjoyed playing home games in the 2024-25 season, boasting a 6-1 record at Arrow Gym. It was evident from the start that the Arrows were comfortable in their surroundings, taking a 10-8 lead after the first period, and not sweating a second quarter that had six lead changes before the break.

UP NEXT

Clinton takes on the Madison Central Jaguars in another District 2-7A contest at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Madison Central High School. It is the first meeting between the two rivals this season.

The Jaguars (14-7, 1-3 District 2-7A) lost their previous match-up to the Starkville Yellowjackets, 57-52, on Thursday.
