VICKSBURG -- The Clinton High School Men's Cross Country kept its consistent nature from its early season meets on Saturday.
Led by sophomore
Dillon Pittman's second-place finish, the Arrows claimed a team victory in a rout at the Warren Central Valhalla Invitational on the campus of Warren Central Intermediate School.
"The high school is running really well as a pack, but we still want the pack to run a little bit faster," Head Men's Cross Country Coach Eric Solis said. "The high school is doing what they are supposed to do, we just need a complete race from everybody. I am still proud of their performance today."
Pittman churned out one of his best times of the season as he paced the Arrows with his time of 19 minutes, two seconds during the 5000m race.
Hyrum Boone kicked in the final stretch to finish the race in 19 minutes, four seconds -- good enough for third place.
Will Kennedy, who placed sixth, was the third Arrow across the line, finishing in 19:30, and
Bobby Guillory was the seventh-place finisher with his time of 19 minutes, 38 seconds.
"Second mile, on the hill, I started throttling my pace up," Pittman said about his performance. "I wasn't focused as much as who was behind, but I was more focused on getting a good time this race. As I got closer to the three-mile mark, I hit a kick, and I made sure I finished strong."
Aydan Coleman (19:49) and
Levi Cook (19:53) placed ninth and tenth, respectively.
Godwin Oniya and
Adam Boone were two other Clinton runners that finished inside the individual Top 25.
In the Junior-High 3200m race, the Arrows dominated the field, claiming seven of the Top 10 individual places, and left with a no-doubt win in the team standings. CJHS's
Logan Moore claimed the top finish in the competition. Moore, an eighth-grader, completed the trek in 10 minutes, 40 seconds.
"The junior high is doing the same as the high school, but they are getting faster every week," Solis said. "(Based on current times), the junior high team's times are putting them first in the state, battling with Pearl. The junior high is killing it."
Daniel Dolson finished the race in 10 minutes, 46 seconds, for second, and
William Howell placed third with his 11:05 time.
Micah Kieffer,
Ezra Connelly, Jackson Rogers, and
Coleman Finch grabbed the fourth, fifth, sixth, and 10th spots, respectively.Â
