The Clinton Arrows Baseball team dropped their Region 2-7A opener on Wednesday night at Tupelo by a score of 5-3. The loss drops the Arrows to a record of 0-1 in region play and an overall record of 5-5.
The Arrows fell behind early as the Golden Wave scored a single run in both the 2nd and 3rd innings. Down 2-0, the Arrows scored 3 in the top of the 5th to take the lead. Tupelo responded immediately, scoring 1 in the bottoom of the 5th to tie the game. The Golden Wave then tacked on 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th to get the score to its 5-3 conclusion.
Leading the way offensively for the Arrows, Sophomore
Stone Crain had the only multi-hit night that saw only 6 hits for the Arrows. Sophomore
Ethan Dodson went 1-for-3 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored. Junior
Parker Thames went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
On the mound for the Arrows, Senior
Ethan Ross tossed 4.1 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 earned runs to go along with 7 strikeouts. Junior
Phillip Burchfield was saddled with the loss as he went 1.2 innings, giving up 3 hits and 2 earned runs.
The Arrows return to action in the second game of the home-and-home series on Saturday at Arrow Field against the Golden Wave. JV will begin at noon and the first pitch of the Varsity game is scheduled for 2 PM.
