The Clinton Arrows Baseball team earned an important region win on Tuesday night at Arrow Field as they defeated the Germantown Mavericks by a score of 4-1. The win moves the Arrows to a record of 8-10 overall and 1-4 in Region 2-7A.
The Arrows struck first in the bottom of the opening frame as they plated 2 runs against Mavericks' Ace Drew Harrison.
Stone Crain led off the game with a double, followed by 2 quick outs.
Ethan Dodson and
Mason Osborne then got back-to-back 2 out hits to drive home 2 runs.
The Mavericks responded int eh top of the 3rd, scoring a run on a 2 out hit, but the Arrows were able to end the inning on the play as center fielder
Chad Bates threw out a Mavericks runner trying to advance. The Arrows then earned that run back in the bottom of the 3rd as
AJ Seiter singled to drive home
Jaydann Hollins to make the score 3-1.
The Arrows extended their lead in the bottom of the 4th as Crain bunted and reached on an error that allowed
Landyn Baker to score and bring the score to its eventual final of 4-1.
At the plate for the Arrows, Osborne recorded the only multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Dodson went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
On the mound for the Arrows,
Ethan Ross earned the win, going 4.2 innings, allowing only 3 hits and 1 run to go along with 5 strikeouts.
Phillip Burchfield earned the save, pitching the final 2.1 innings allowing only 1 hit and recording 3 strikeouts.
The Arrows return to action on Thursday night as they return the trip to Gluckstadt to take on the Mavericks in Game 2 of the series. JV will begin at 5 and Varsity will begin at 7 PM.
