The Clinton Arrows Baseball team earned a dramatic 4-3 victory over the Florence Eagles on Friday night at Arrow Field. The win moves the Arrows to a record of 5-3 on the season.
Down 3-1 entering the bottom of the 7th, the Arrows got a leadoff single from Sophomore
Chad Bates. Following a strikeout, Sophomore
Josef Walker earned a walk to put the tying run on base. Senior
AJ Seiter then doubled to left field and Walker scored from 1st base to tie the game. Seiter advanced to 3rd base on the throw to give the Arrows the winning run 90 feet away with 1 out. The Eagles intentionally walked Senior
Mason Osborne and Sophomore
Ethan Dodson to load the bases and give their defense a chance with force plays at the plate. Junior
Parker Thames came up with the bases loaded, and on the 10th pitch of the at-bat, Thames singled to left field to drive home the winning run to give the Arrows the victory.
At the plate for the Arrows, Seiter led the way, going 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. The Arrows compiled 6 hits and were walked 7 times in the game.
On the mound for the Arrows, Junior
Phillip Burchfield earned the win, going 3.1 innings only giving up 1 hit to go along with 5 strikeouts. Senior
Kemper Meacham got the start for the Arrows, going 3.2 innings, giving up 4 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 4 Eagles.
The Arrows return to action on Saturday afternoon as they travel east to Decatur, MS to take on the Newton County Cougars. JV will start at 12 and Varsity will start at 2 PM.
