The Clinton Arrows Baseball team defeated the Pearl Pirates on the road on Tuesday night by a score of 6-4. The win moves the Arrows to a record of 4-3 on the season.
The Arrows jumped out to an early 5 run lead and held on in the late innings. The Arrows scored 3 runs in the top of the 2nd including a 2-run home run for Sophomore Catcher
Stone Crain. The Arrows tacked runs on in the 3rd and 4th innings to make the score 5-0. The Pirates stormed back with a run in the bottom of the 4th and 3 more in the bottom of the 5th to make the score 5-4 before the Arrows earned a much needed insurance run in the top of the 6th. The Pirates threatened in the bottom of the 7th, but Junior
Brody Zumbro was able to get a strikeout and fly out before striking out another Pirate to end the game.
Offensively for the Arrows, Crain and
Parker Thames both had multi-hit nights. Thames had 2 doubles to go along with a run scored. Sophomore
Josef Walker went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. Senior
Michael Anderson went 1-for-2 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.
On the mound for the Arrows, Senior
Ethan Ross earned the win with 4.1 innings pitched giving up 4 earned runs with 0 walks and 8 strikeouts.
Phillip Burchfield pitched 1.2 innings and held the lead for the Arrows through the 5th and 6th innings. Zumbro came in and got 3 outs in the 7th, giving up just 1 hit with 2 strikeouts.
The Arrows return home on Friday to host the Florence Eagles. JV will begin at 5 and Varsity will start at 7 PM.
