In a game filled with defense and low scoring, the Clinton Arrows basketball team earned a 46-34 win over the Madison Central Jaguars to earn a trip to the MHSAA 7A Semifinals on Thursday. The semifinals berth will be the 3rd in the last 4 years for the Arrows after they won consecutive state championships in 2021 and 2022.
The 1st quarter was a slugfest, with only 14 total points scored. The Arrows finished the opening frame down 9-5. The 2nd quarter was much more comfortable for the Arrows, as they scored 17 points to take a 22-14 lead into halftime.
In the 2nd half, the Arrows were outscored 14-10 in the 3rd quarter, but still took a 4 point lead into the final quarter. The Arrows dominated the final 8 minutes, only allowing 6 points and finishing the game with the 46-34 score.
MHSAA 7A Mr. Basketball Trey Alexander led all scorers with 15 points.
The Arrows will play the Brandon Bulldogs at the Mississippi Coliseum on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 PM. The winner will play the winner of Germantown and Meridian on Saturday night for the state championship.
