The Clinton Arrows Baseball team started the season strong with a hard-fought win over the Pearl Pirates by the score of 3-2 on Tuesday night at Arrow Field. The win pushes the Arrows' record to 1-0 on the young season.
The Pirates started the scoring in the top of the 1st on a squeeze play followed by a walk and a hit by pitch to make the score 2-0 headed into the bottom of the opening frame.
The Arrows responded in the Bottom of the 2nd inning after
Tinnin Potts was hit by a pitch with 2 outs, followed by a bunt single from
Josef Walker, a walk to
Ethan Dodson, and an infield single from
Parker Thames to drive home Potts.
The Arrows tied the game in the Bottom of the 3rd inning when
AJ Seiter and
Stone Crain reached base to open the inning,
Phillip Burchfield flied out to right field to advance Seiter to 3rd before
Mason Osborne hit an opposite field single to score Seiter and make the score 2-2.
The Arrows would take the lead in the Bottom of the 4th when Potts walked to lead off the inning followed by a single from Walker and Dodson being hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Potts scored on a passed ball and the Arrows took the lead 3-2.
The Arrows' pitching staff held the Pirates scoreless over the final 6 innings of the ballgame to seal the win.
At the plate, the Arrows recorded 5 hits on the night.
Josef Walker had 2 and
Ethan Dodson,
Parker Thames, and
Mason Osborne all had 1. Thames and Osborne added an RBI as well.
On the mound for the Arrows, Senior
Ethan Ross earned the win after coming in relief to record 4 innings, only giving up 1 hit and striking out 4 Pirates. Burchfield started the game, going 1 inning, giving up 1 hit, 2 runs, walked 2, and recorded 1 strikeout.
Caleb Waldo-Speth followed Ross with 1.1 innings, giving up 0 hits with a walk and a strikeout. Seiter earned the save after recording the final 2 outs including a strikeout to end the game.
The Arrows return to action on Saturday at Arrow Field as they play host to the Cougars of Newton County.
