OLIVE BRANCH -- The Clinton High School Women's Soccer team found a way to overcome adversity off the field and got itself on the winning end on Friday night.
Kayla Jones scored a brace, and Clinton's back line kept the clean sheet in Clinton's 2-0 non-district win over the Lewisburg Lady Patriots at Lewisburg High School. The road success brought the Lady Arrows' overall record to 5-1-1.
"It's always tough traveling north, and Lewisburg consistently fields a great team," Clinton Head Women's Soccer Coach Elliot Rimmer said. "Today, we did a lot of things well. Kayla did what she does best which is turn difficult chances into goals. Another thing we really were happy about today was how stingy
Mandy Leach and the back line were (against Lewisburg)."
Before Friday's kickoff, the Lady Arrows received unfortunate news as senior midfielder
Kate Jackson's season was ended due to a knee injury sustained in Tuesday's game against Oak Grove High School.
"We received some disheartening news about Kate just before kickoff, but seeing the girls maintain their focus and perform well was truly encouraging," Rimmer said. "While we have heavy hearts, knowing that Kate's season is over, we also glad to celebrate another victory in the win column."
Jones opened her scoring account when she finished off an
Alex Holmes assist in the game's 12th minute. The one-goal lead was maintained into halftime by defensive line's efforts.
Jones added to the Lady Arrows' advantage in the 48th minute. The junior blasted her shot past the Lady Patriot goalkeeper from outside the 18-yard box, adding a little cushion for the red and black.
