The Lady Arrows Soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to the Lady Golden Wave of Tupelo on Thursday night at Arrow Field. The loss drops the Lady Arrows to a record of 6-2 in Region 2-7A and 12-3-2 overall. The Lady Arrows did retain the #2 seed for the upcoming MHSAA 7A playoffs and will open with a 1st round home game.
The first half was scoreless on Thursday night as both teams were unable to capitalize on chances in the attacking end. The teams went to the locker room tied at 0-0.
In the second half, Tupelo struck first in the 53rd minute to make the score 1-0. The Lady Golden Wave added to their lead 10 minutes later to make the score 2-0. With less than 10 minutes remaining, Sophomore
Kayla Jones added to her impressive season goals total by finding the back of the net on an assist from Senior
Zoie Zumbro. The Lady Arrows, however, were unable to find the equalizer and the final score remained 2-1.
Head Coach Elliot Rimmer said of his team's performance, "I thought we actually played really well. We dominated the stat lines but were just unable to take advantage of finishing chances. This was a good measuring stick for our performance as we played much better tonight than the previous couple of matches. We are excited for the chance to have one more opportunity to try some things and answer some questions in our final regular season game before ramping it up for a hopeful playoff run."
The Lady Arrows will host the Northwest Rankin Lady Cougars on Tuesday night, January 30, at Arrow Field at 5:30 PM.
