The Lady Arrows Soccer team defeated the Starkville Lady Yellow Jackets by a score of 3-0 on Tuesday night. The win pushes the Lady Arrows to a record of 4-0 in Region 2-7A and 9-0-2 overall.
The Lady Arrows scored once in the first half. Senior
Mckenzie Price sent the ball into the area of the Starkville goalkeeper, but the ball remained just loose enough for Sophomore
Ruby Acy to slide in and push the ball past the keeper's hands into the back of the net to make the score 1-0 Lady Arrows.
In the second half, the Lady Arrows began to find more opportunities against a Starkville defense looking to pack the box and concede possession. Sophomore
Kayla Jones scored the second goal of the game on another assist from Price. The Lady Arrows earned a free kick in the attacking half, and Price sent the set piece into the perfect area for Jones to put the ball away and make the score 2-0. Jones scored again later on an assist from Junior
Faith Taylor. The Lady Arrows attack moved the ball into the attacking area beautifully and Jones pushed an open shot past the keeper to make the score 3-0.
Senior Goalkeeper
Sarah Polk recorded her 7th clean sheet of the season and the Lady Arrows' defense has only conceded 4 goals this season in 11 games.
Head Coach Elliot Rimmer said his team is in need of some recovery time after a tough region stretch over the past two weeks. "Tonight was another game where we had to grind out a result, but when you get everyone's best game it is paramount that you don't take nights off. Making it through the first round of region play without a loss is huge, that was our goal for this half of the season and we achieved that and put ourselves in a good place going into the home stretch. Now, getting off of our feet and getting some rest over the break both physically and mentally is most important right now, and it also allows us to dive into film and see how we can adjust and what needs to change get us playing our best soccer as we head into crunch time."
The Lady Arrows now get to enjoy a bit of a rest as they head into Christmas Break. They will return to action in 2024 as they travel to Baton Rouge, Lousiana on January 5th and 6th to take on St. Joseph and St. Mary's Dominican.
