The Lady Arrows Soccer team defeated the Oak Grove Lady Warriors 2-1 on Tuesday night in their 2023-2024 home opener at Arrow Field. The win pushes the Lady Arrows to 2-0-1 on the young season.
The action started quickly as Sophomore
Kayla Jones opened the scoring in the 1st minute of the match. A long ball from Senior
Zoie Zumbro was perfectly placed for Jones to get a touch past the Lady Warriors' keeper and give herself a wide-open net to make the score 1-0. While the Lady Arrows had more chances to add to their lead in the opening half, the score was 1-0 headed into halftime.
In the 2nd half, Oak Grove was able to tie the score in the 50th minute when a loose ball in front of goal was able to be pushed into the net making the score 1-1. The score remained tied until
Kayla Jones struck again and sent her goals total to 4 on the season on another assist from
Zoie Zumbro. Jones settled the ball just outside the 18 yard box and sent a shot that deflected off the fingertips of the keeper and trickled into the back of the net to give the Lady Arrows the lead for good.
Head Coach Elliot Rimmer said games like these are the ones that can be learning experiences for future matches. "Not a performance we want to put on the wall and memorialize because it wasn't up to our standards, but that's why we love the game: perfection is impossible so there is always another level to chase. The girls fought hard on an emotional day and found a way to put another tally in the win column. Proud of them for their effort and their willingness to learn from mistakes."
The Lady Arrows return to action Thursday night when they host the Lady Bulldogs of Brandon High School. Kickoff is at 5:30 at Arrow Field.
