CHOCTAW -- The Clinton High School women's golf team captured the Choctaw Central Girls September Invitational championship on Wednesday, September 16, at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club.
The Lady Arrows led wire to wire, finishing atop the team standings with a score of 169 to edge Itawamba Agricultural High School by two strokes over the 18-hole competition.
Ellyn Burchfield led Clinton and captured the individual championship, firing a round of 78 to finish atop the individual leaderboard.
The senior carded a 1-over on the front nine before finishing the back nine with a 5-over. Burchfield recorded five birdies during her championship round.
Laney Mitchell followed with a 91 to finish ninth individually. Mitchell fired two birdies, carding a 7-over on the front nine and a 12-over on the back.
Harper Davis added a 96, while
Taylar Rai Johnson carded a 100 for the Lady Arrows. Davis and Johnson finished 15th and 23rd, respectively.
The Lady Arrows' victory marked their first tournament win of the season in six attempts. Clinton has now five straight top-five team finishes.
