JACKSON -- The Clinton High School Women's Golf team posted its best team finish of the 2025 season on Thursday.
Led by junior
Ellyn Burchfield, the Lady Arrows placed third in the Lady Arrow Invitational at Live Oaks Golf Club. Burchfield fired an 81 in the 18-hole trek and finished third overall on the individual leaderboard -- only two strokes off the pace.
"A podium finish is a great step forward for the team," Clinton Women's Golf Coach Cameron Melton said. "We played well but still left several strokes out there. I think cleaning up a couple little things in our game will give us more competitive tournament finishes."
The tournament started shotgun style, and Burchfield rebounded from a 3-over start on holes 10, 11, and 12. The lefty, who putts right-handed, rebounded quickly on the par-3 13th hole when she placed her tee shot within 16 feet then drilled her putt for a birdie. The strong play continued as Burchfield found par on the remaining five holes of the back nine. Burchfield added three more pars on the front nine, rounding out a 10-over day on the course.
Burchfield picked up help from teammates
Laney Mitchell and
Kasey Pigg who both used 96 strokes each during their round, tying the Lady Arrow pair for 10th in the individual competition. Mitchell fired six pars during her journey, and Pigg had four.
The Lady Arrows landed all four golfers in the top 15 as
Harper Davis' 102-stroke round found the junior in 13th place.
