BRANDON -- The Clinton High School Women's Golf team diagnosed several areas of its game at the Northwest Rankin Girls' Invitational on Monday.
Unforgiving trouble throughout the 18-hole track at Castlewoods Country Club provided a challenging round as
Ellyn Burchfield and
Kasey Pigg combined as the two Lady Arrow scorers in a sixth-place finish in the tournament.
"We started off hot with matching birdies from Ellyn and Kasey to give us a 2-under lead early," Clinton Head Women's Golf Coach Cameron Melton said. "(Castlewoods) had some unforgiving terrain with lots of water and tree trouble, and it punished several of our shots.
"Going forward, I think we will use today to diagnose the parts of our game that need the most work so we can come out stronger next time," Melton added.
Burchfield started her round with a birdie on hole 3 -- a par 5. The junior added three more pars before she made the turn six holes later. Burchfield matched par on four more holes on the back nine, shooting a plus-7 during that stretch. The lefty ended her day with two consecutive pars, finishing with a plus-10, 82 scorecard.
Burchfield's score placed her ninth on the individual leaderboard.
For Pigg, a senior, she opened her round with a birdie on the par-4 18th. Pigg would find three pars in her next 17 holes, ending the day with 91 strokes. The score placed Pigg in 16th overall.
