BROOKHAVEN -- The Clinton High School Women's Cross Country team opened its 2025 season with two stellar individual performances at the Ole Brook Invitational on Thursday evening.
Olivia Gibbs, a freshman, and
Riley Moore, a junior, finished first and second, respectively, in the 5000m race hosted by Brookhaven High School. The Lady Arrows were edged out of the top spot by St. Andrew's Episcopal School with a deficit of three points in the team competition.
Gibbs' six-minute, 48-second pace landed her in the top spot with a time of 20:25.58. Moore was not far behind her teammate as she clocked a time of 20 minutes, 45 seconds.
The Lady Arrows landed
Caroline Henry and
Lily Sisson in the top 10 of the individual leaderboard, as well. Clinton freshman
Eleanor Wilson was the 11th finisher in the 5000m race that was delayed by a pop-up thunderstorm in Lincoln County.
Payton Greer was the 14th overall finisher.
Ellen Fortenberry rounded out the Lady Arrows in the individual top 20 with her time of 23 minutes, 53 seconds -- strong enough for 16th place.
In the two-mile, junior-high race, Clinton placed second on the team scoreboard and placed four runners in the top 10.
Norah Byars placed third, and AvaKate Boone positioned herself into fifth.
Katherine Chittom was the sixth finisher; while
