MADISON -- The Clinton High School Women's Golf team made their second appearance of this early campaign and secured a top-five finish on Wednesday at Whisper Lake Country Club.
Ellyn Burchfield led the Lady Arrows with a plus-3 67 -- good enough for a two-way tie of fifth place on the individual scoreboard -- and
Kasey Pigg's 78-stroke round assisted the red and black's performance on the par-64 course tucked away in Madison County. The 145 strokes landed Clinton in the fifth position at the Lady Mavs Invitational hosted by Germantown High School.
Burchfield rebounded from two bogeys in the opening four holes and eagled Whisper Lake's fifth hole -- a par-4, 275-yard track. The junior executed a 235-yard drive off the tee box and chipped in her second shot from 40 yards away. The fifth-hole eagle sparked Burchfield into three pars out of the final four holes of the front nine, shooting plus-1 at the turn.
Burchfield tallied five pars and three bogeys on the back nine before her birdie on the 18th, closing out her plus-3 round and landing in the top five individuals.
Pigg showed resilience after a shaky front nine and helped the Lady Arrows on the back nine, shaving four strokes off her front-nine performance. The round highlight for Pigg was her biridie on the 126-yard, 14th hole -- a par 3.
Other Lady Arrows in competition at the Lady Mavs Invitational included
Laney Mitchell and
Harper Davis.
