The Clinton High School Women's Cross Country team enters the 2025 season with a clear, challenging goal.
That goal is every runner improving their personal best by at least 30 seconds from last year.
Head Coach Allen Marett knows it's a tall order, but he believes the work ethic and tenacity of this year's squad makes it achievable.
"The goal we have set is not easy, but it is doable," Marett said. "Their greatest impact on the team will be their daily attitudes and their work ethic."
A strong core of returning varsity runners that includes Eleanor Freeny, Olivia Gibbs, Payton Greer, Caroline Henry, Caroline Killebrew, Willow Lenoir, Cendal McHarris, Riley Moore, Lily Sisson, Allie Thornton, and Eleanor Wilson, will anchor the Lady Arrows.
Considering the long list of runners, one of the Lady Arrows' biggest advantages this year is their depth and intra-squad competition for spots in the scoring positions for each meet.
"Last season, an early injury to a top-five runner created a major scoring gap," Marett said. "This year, if that happens, it will still hurt, but we'll have more runners ready to step up."
This deep, talented squad gets their first test at the Ole Brook Invitational on Thursday, August 14, in Brookhaven.
To keep the competitive spirit high, Marett has planned two new awards this season and will announce these recognitions on X (@Ladyarrowxc) after each meet:
Top Performer Award – Recognizing the runner with the best performance of the meet.
Most Improved Award – Beginning after the second meet, honoring the runner among the top 10 who shows the greatest time improvement.
