The Clinton High School Football team played its spring game against the Ridgeland Titans on Thursday evening at Ridgeland High School.
The Arrows, who had not played a Spring scrimmage in a couple of years, had plenty of familiar faces take the field, providing leadership and experience. A batch of new faces, from players and coaches, donned the red and black. One of those familiar faces embraced his new role as head football coach, Hamer Morgan. Morgan was impressed with his team's effort against the Titans.
"That's the first spring game we have played in a couple of years, so it was good to get one under our belts," Morgan said. "The main thing is we got out of her healthy. We got a lot of veteran and young players some reps today, too. We saw a lot of good things."
The points and score do not necessarily matter too much, but the experience gained under the lights and in front of a crowd matters a whole lot more. However, the Arrows ended several offensive series with points, and the defense fought valiantly against rarely-seen wing-t offense ran by Ridgeland.
"Getting on the bus and mentally preparing for a road game, anytime you can get that experience -- it helps," Morgan said. "It is what these players signed up to do, playing football. We got as many reps as we can, and I think it was a really good experience."
Clinton kicks off the 2025 season with a home game against the Warren Central Vikings on Friday, Aug. 29th, at Arrow Field.
