During a special called board meeting on Monday, February 24, the Clinton Public School District's Board of Trustees approved the recommendation to promote Defensive Coordinator Hamer Morgan as the new head coach of the Clinton Arrows.
Morgan replaces John Carr who left in February after only one season with the Arrows.
"I am thankful and excited for the opportunity to lead this program and help these young men grow in not only football, but also life," Coach Morgan said. "Here at Clinton, the player's work ethic, toughness and resilience are second to none. I am ready to get to work and build on the traditions of Clinton Arrow football."
Head Coach Hamer Morgan has an extensive history building Clinton's program, serving as the Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Football Coach for the Arrows since 2015.
During that time he helped the Arrows secure the 2016 6A State Championship Title as well as appearances in postseason play in 2022, 2021 and 2020 where the Arrows reached the 6A North State finals.
Director of Athletics Judd Boswell said the search for Clinton's new head coach required a leader who fit what is important to the traditions of Clinton Football.
"We wanted someone who wanted to lead our student athletes and someone who loved and cared for our kids," Boswell said. "We wanted someone who understood the importance and demand of the job as well as someone who wanted to be a part of the Clinton Community."
Boswell said Hamer Morgan fit that criteria perfectly. "Coach Morgan has been a part of CHS Football since 2015 and has experienced some of the highs of winning the 2016 State championship to some of the years we have been average."
Boswell said Morgan fully understands the cycles that high school athletics go through and is more than capable of navigating the landscape of Mississippi High School Football at the highest level.
"We are very excited and confident in Coach Morgan and his plan for Clinton Football," he added. "Coach Morgan has been a part of the Clinton community for over a decade and embraces the importance of the Job. He understands the demands of the job, conference, and expectations of the Clinton Public School District and will grow the program from this point forward."
Prior to his time with Clinton, Morgan served as Head Coach at Forest High School, leading the Bearcats to the playoffs from 2012-2014.
He served as Assistant Coach with Forest High School from 2001-2011, playing a key role in the Bearcats' spree of playoff appearances and MHSAA 3A State Championship game in 2008 and 2010.
Morgan was selected as an All-Star Coach in the 2015 Mississippi/Alabama All Star Game and as Defensive Coordinator in the 2014 Mississippi Association of Coaches Bernard Blackwell All Star game.
Morgan coached several sports during his time at Forest High School, serving as head baseball, powerlifting and golf coach.
He began his coaching career as an assistant football coach at Montgomery County High School in Kilmichael, Mississippi, in 2000.
Morgan is married to Stephanie Morgan, a kindergarten teacher at Clinton Park Elementary School. The two of them are parents to Sidney Owens, an 8th grader at Clinton Junior High School, and twins Kate and Quin, 6th graders at Lovett.
"The Clinton Public School District has been, and continues to be, a great place for myself and my family to succeed," Morgan said.
