The Clinton High School Men's Basketball team found itself in a tightly-contested game on Friday night.
However, the Arrows are no stranger to the games with slim margins. This fact allowed them not to blink when their District 2-7A contest against the Tupelo Golden Wave was one.
Clinton's third-quarter, come-from-behind performance was enough to hold off a surging Tupelo, 54-53, at Arrow Gym. The victory elevated the Arrows' overall record to 10-7 and bettered their District 2-7A tally to 1-1.
Javarius Tyler had an efficient night, scoring 16 points on 75-percent made from the floor and three-of-four behind the 3-point arc.Â
Jakobe Cavett chipped in 16 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Clinton and Tupelo were tied 11-11 at the end of the first period. Then, the Golden Wave carried a two-point lead into the intermission, 25-23.Â
However, it was the Arrows that flipped the game's script when they outscored Tupelo 18-6 in the first eight minutes of the second half.Â
The 10-point advantage proved to be enough cushion as Clinton held onto its win down the contest's final stretch.
The Arrows bettered the Golden Wave's shooting percentage, 45-40. Turnovers and rebounds differential were slim though the stats favored Tupelo.
