The Clinton Arrows ran past the Terry Bulldogs on Friday night by a final score of 28-21. The win pushes the Arrows to 1-5 on the season heading into the by week before the start of Region 2-7A play in 2 weeks. The loss drops the Bulldogs to 4-2 on the season.
Terry got the scoring started in the 1st Quarter with a 64 yard pass from Ashton Fair to RJ Hall. The Extra Point was no good, and the score was 6-0 halfway through the opening frame. The Arrows quickly responded to take the lead with a 50 yard run from Senior
Brady Torrence and an Extra Point from Senior
Hayden Wolfe to push the score to 7-6. The Arrows tacked on another score in the 1st Quarter with a 24 yard pass rom Senior
Veshone Malone to Sophomore
Aiden Knox to make the score 14-6.
In the 2nd Quarter, Terry had the lone score with a 29 yard run from Hall. The Bulldogs converted the 2-point try to even the score at 14 heading into halftime.
In the 3rd Quarter,
Jakobe Williams had the lone score, pushing across the goal line from a yard out in the final minute of the frame. Wolfe made the Extra Point to make the score 21-14.
Williams added another score in the final frame from 15 yards out to give the Arrows a 2 score lead at 28-14. Terry punched in a 1 yard run from Fair 3 plays after a 60 yard punt return from Hall. The Arrows recovered the ensuing onside kick attempt, but were forced to punt, giving the ball back to Bulldogs with less than 2 minutes on the clock. The Arrows defense stood strong and stopped the Bulldogs to seal the victory.
Head Coach Judd Boswell said about the win, "Our kids kept chopping. We are looking forward to a week where we can get a few injured guys healthy. I am very proud and thankful for how hard these kids play despite all the setbacks, misfortune, and breaks that have gone against them."
Offensively for the Arrows,
Jakobe Williams led the team in rushing with 158 yards and 2 TD on 31 carries.
Brady Torrence added 84 yards and 1 TD on 11 carries.
Veshone Malone had 26 yards on 4 carries. Malone also had 54 yards through the air with a TD.
Defensively, Senior
Michael Johnson led the team with 5 solo tackles and 3 assisted tackles. Seniors
TJ Spann and
Lucian Price each had 4 tackles, and Senior
Donovan Coleman and Junior
James Farr added 3 tackles each. Senior
Chase Harper had his 2nd Interception in as many weeks.
The Arrows return to action in two weeks after the bye week when they travel to Starkville to take on the Yellow Jackets in the opener of Region 2-7A play on October 13.
