CLINTON -- The Clinton High School Softball team continued its trend of producing big innings Thursday night, using a five-run third to down the Germantown Lady Mavericks, 11-5.
The Lady Arrows took control when
Presleigh Burrow delivered a two-run double.
Jaelyn Gholar drew a bases-loaded walk to force in another run, and a Germantown defensive miscue allowed two more Clinton runs to score, giving the Lady Arrows a 6-1 advantage.
Burrow also handled the work in the circle, going the distance and allowing nine hits and five runs over seven innings. The freshamn worked around trouble throughout the night, escaping bases-loaded jams in the first and third innings and stranding two runners in both the second and sixth to help Clinton stay in control.
Cailyn Willis, Gholar, Thames and Burrow each had a hit for Clinton, which also showed patience at the plate with seven walks in the win.
Germantown opened the scoring in the top of the second, but Clinton responded in the bottom half when Thames singled down the left-field line to tie the game at 1-1.
The Lady Arrows added another run in the fourth, then scored two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings to pull away and secure the victory.
