MADISON -- The Clinton High School softball team turned an early deficit into an offensive explosion Tuesday night, rallying for 21 runs to defeat the Madison Central Jaguars, 21-11, in five innings of Region 2-7A play at Madison Central High School.
With the victory, the Lady Arrows improved to 9-9 overall and remained unbeaten in region action after two contests.
Madison Central struck first with three runs in the opening inning, but Clinton responded emphatically, plating six runs in the second to take control. The Lady Arrows added five runs in the third and eight runs in the fourth to break away from the hosts.
Clinton's offense was relentless throughout the lineup, totaling 10 hits and drawing 10 walks. Along with the positive output from the plate, the Lady Arrows pounced on the Jaguars' defensive miscues.
Madison Rhodes led the charge, going 2-for-4 with five RBIs and four runs scored.
Anna Raines delivered a perfect 3-for-3 performance at the plate with three RBIs, while
Jaelyn Gholar added two hits and drove in a run.
Keelyn Constancio scored four runs and reached base three times, while
Cailyn Willis contributed a pair of RBIs and swiped three bases as part of an aggressive baserunning strategy.
In the circle,
Presleigh Burrow went the distance, allowing 11 runs (seven earned) on 13 hits, while working confidently through traffic on the basepath.
UP NEXT
The Lady Arrows return home Thursday, March 26, hosting the Germantown Mavericks at Clinton High School. Junior varsity first pitch is set for 5 p.m. with varsity to follow at 6:30 p.m.
Clinton and Germantown will honor military servicemen and servicewomen prior to the varsity contest and throughout the evening.
