A pitching duel in a Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Division 2-7A contest fell the way of the Clinton Lady Arrows on Thursday night.
Annalise Whitworth went a full seven innings,
Makenzie Cooley supplied a game-winning triple and the Lady Arrows defeated Madison Central Jaguars 3-2 at Clinton High School.
Whitworth earned the win for Clinton Varsity Lady Arrows. The pitcher gave up seven hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out three and walking three.Â
Clinton didn't take the lead until later in the game. The game was tied at two in the bottom of the sixth when Cooley tripled to the wall in right-center field, scoring one run.
The Jaguars got on the board in the top of the second inning after a walk, and a double down the right field line each plated one run.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Clinton tied the game at 2-2 after Keelyn Costancio singled to left field.
Keelyn Costancio led Clinton Varsity Lady Arrows with three hits in four at bats from the lead-off position. Cooley collected two hits for Clinton Varsity Lady Arrows in two at bats. Clinton Varsity Lady Arrows had a strong eye at the plate, collecting six walks for the game. Cooley,
Kaelyn Thames, and Whitworth led the team with two bases on balls each.
Clinton was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.
Hayden-Leigh Holifield had the most chances in the field with seven.
