The Clinton High School Softball team enjoyed an offensive explosion and a solid pitching performance inside the circle against the Pearl Lady Pirates on Thursday night.
Mackenzie Cooley drove in six runs on three hits,
Annalise Whitworth tossed four shutout innings, and the Lady Arrows sank the Lady Pirates, 12-0, in three and one-half innings at Clinton High School.
Cooley hit a home run to left field in the second, scoring three runs, doubled in the first, scoring two, and singled in the third, scoring one. The senior shortstop was a triple away from hitting for the cycle.
Clinton got on the board in the bottom of the first after Cooley doubled, scoring two runs,
Destiny Funchess singled, scoring one, and
Madison Nelson doubled, scoring another.
Four more Lady Arrows crossed the plate in the second to extend the lead to 8-0. Cooley homered to left field, scoring three runs, and Funchess tripled, scoring the fourth run of the frame.
Kaelyn Thames and Cooley added RBI singles, accounting for four runs in the third.
Whitworth earned the win for the Lady Arrows. The starter gave up three hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out three and walking one.
Clinton tallied 10 hits in the game. Funchess collected two hits for Clinton in two at bats.
UP NEXT
Clinton will travel to Hernando for their next game against the Lady Tigers on Saturday.
