PEARL -- The Clinton High School Softball team got back on track with a convincing win despite trailing early on Friday, March 28.
The Pearl Lady Pirates jumped out to a seven-run advantage, but
Jaelyn Gholar drove in five runs on three hits, leading Clinton past Pearl, 15-7, at Pearl High School.
Gholar tripled in the sixth inning, scoring two runs, and tripled in the seventh, scoring three.
Trailing 7-0 after the second, Clinton pieced together a comeback with two runs in the third, a run in the fourth, and two more in the fifth. It was the sixth inning that saw the Lady Arrows finally capture the lead, 9-7, when
Keelyn Constancio singled, scoring one run, Gholar added her two-run triple, and
Makenzie Cooley drew a walk, scoring one.
The Lady Arrows scored six runs on five hits in the top of the seventh.
Madison Nelson singled, scoring one run, Gholar tripled, plating three, and Cooley singled, scoring two runs.
Annalise Whitworth pitched five innings in relief for Clinton, taking over for
Estrella Constancio, who started inside the circle. Whitworth allowed two hits and zero runs, striking out eight and walking none.
The Lady Arrows amassed 14 hits against Pearl. Gholar,
Keelyn Constancio, and Nelson each collected three hits. Cooley collected two hits in three at bats and swiped two bases.

The Lady Arrows return to Division 2-7A action with road trip to the Starkville Lady Yellowjackets on Tuesday night. The first pitch of the game is set for 6:30 p.m. at Starkville High School.
