The Lady Arrows Softball team capped off their regular season slate with authority on Thursday night as they defeated the Pearl Lady Pirates in 6 innings by a score of 16-5. The Lady Arrows finish the regular season with a record of 16-9 and will head to the MHSAA 7A playoffs next week.
The Lady Arrows scored in every inning and piled up 16 hits as a team. 7 of those 16 hits were for extra bases, and the Lady Arrows hit 3 home runs as a team.
In the bottom of the 1st inning,
Madison Nelson hit a triple with 1 out before
Estrella Constancio hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the first run of the game. With 2 outs, the Lady Arrows rallied for 2 more runs behind a single from
Makenzie Cooley, a walk to
Destiny Funchess, and a 2-RBI double from
Kaelyn Thames.
Senior
Tyler Brown led off the bottom of the 2nd inning with a home run to center field to make the score 4-1 in favor of the Lady Arrows.
After the Lady Pirates trimmed the lead to 1 in the top of the 3rd, the Lady Arrows responded with a run in the bottom half on a wild pitch and 6 runs in the bottom of the 4th. In that frame,
Anna Raines led off with a single followed by
Keelyn Constancio with a bunt hit before Nelson beat out an infield single that saw the throw get away and bring home 2 runs. E Constancio followed that with a triple to left field that brought home Nelson. Cooley then walked before Funchess hit a 3-run home run to right field to make the score 11-4 in favor of the Lady Arrows.
The Lady Arrows scored 1 in the 5th before the Lady Pirates plated a run in the top of the 6th to make the score 12-5. In the bottom of the 6th, K Constancio singled to bring home a run just after
Madison Rhodes scored on a passed ball to make the score 14-5. The game ended when E Constancio sent a pitch over the left field wall to bring home 2 runs and make the score 16-5.
In the circle for the Lady Arrows,
Ashlen Albritton went 3 innings, giving up 4 hits and 1 earned run to go along with 4 strikeouts. E Constancio finished the final 3 innings, giving up 3 hits and no earned runs to go along with 3 strikeouts.
The Lady Arrows have earned the 2 seed in Region 2-7A and will have home-field advantage in the 1st round of the 7A playoffs beginning next Friday, April 26. The Lady Arrows will host the Lady Jaguars of DeSoto Central High School. Game 1 will take place at Arrow Field on Friday night. Game 2 will be in Southaven on Saturday, April 27, and the if necessary Game 3 will be back at Arrow Field on Monday, April 29.
