The Clinton High School Men's Soccer team continued its winning ways on Thursday night.
Wes Ambrose and
Kellan Brown scored goals in the first half, and the Arrows maintained the shutout for a 2-0 win over the West Jones Mustangs at Arrow Field.
Ambrose got Clinton on the scoreboard when he finished off an opportunity set up by
Timothy Graham's assist in the 9th minute. After Ambrose completed a through-ball to Graham, the junior raced into the 18-yard box and got the square pass back from his teammate, who was pressured by the West Jones goalkeeper. Ambrose calmly put the ball into the net and headed to the corner flag to celebrate with his fellow Arrows.
Nine minutes later, Brown got the Arrows' advantage to two goals. The senior shouldered a Mustang off the ball at the center circle and benefited by deflecting another Mustang's clearance, which caromed past the defensive line. The senior sprinted by the back line and caught up with the loose ball about 20 yards from goal, slotting it past the sliding goalie.
Jesus Estrada and
Ryan Saxton split goalkeeping duties for the Arrows, and the pair kept the visitors off the scoreboard in all 80 minutes. It is Clinton's fourth straight clean sheet.
